Sports Massage

What is Sports Massage / Deep Tissue Massage

Massage is for both sports and non-sports persons alike. The treatment involves manipulation of the soft tissue with the body, which increases the blood supply releasing tension, flushing through lactic acid and breaking down scar tissue. It also assists in correcting problems and imbalances caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity. Used before and after exercise, sports massage can help optimise training, assist in preparation for events and promote recovery afterwards.

Numerous techniques are used throughout the treatment to ensure the best results are achieved with minimal discomfort such as: -

Trigger Point Therapy – Releasing muscles which have been contracted, often tender to touch. This allows the muscles to release and to be massaged.

Myofascial Release – Releasing connective tissue which inter-links all parts of the body, thus restricting muscles and flexibility.

Soft Tissue Release – A combination of stretching and pressure techniques applied to specific muscles where they have been restricted or congested.

Each treatment is tailored to suit the individual client, as well as promoting physical well-being and prevention or reoccurring injuries, as well as assisting in the clients’ sporting endeavours.

What happens during the treatment?

The consultation beings with a discussion on health, lifestyle and any specific areas which require attention. The treatment takes place on a six-foot massage bed and throughout the treatment the client is covered with a towel, exposing the area to be worked. The treatment normally takes place in sports shorts or similar undergarments.

Throughout the treatment pressure will be discussed and whether there are certain areas which require a deeper massage.
